Dusky Damsels and Longfin Damsels look so much alike, it is really hard to distinguish the two. These are the 3 major helpful distinguishing features:
- The Longfin Damselfish has a dorsel fin that extends nearly to the end of its tail, whereas the Dusky only extends to the base of the tail (the caudal peduncal).
- The Longfin Damselfish has a bright blue edge on its anal fin, whereas the Dusky is missing this feature.
- Dusky Damsels tends to hang out at shallower depths.
