Catalina, California (Big Geiger) – 5/28/2017
I could not figure out this sea star, so I reached out to Neil McDaniel, who is the best source on identifying sea stars on the West Coast Sea Stars of the Pacific Northwest . He said that this mottled star is likely the fragile star Linckia columbiae. Apparently, this star normally has five rays, so this 6-rayed specimen might be unusual.
